OET Speaking (Radiography)
Setting: Outpatient Clinic
Radiographer
You are talking to a concerned parent of a 6-year-old child who requires an MRI scan. You provide information the parent require and reassure them.
TASK
* Find out the reason for the parent's visit. Find out the parent's concerns
* Explain the importance of MRI (eg. detailed images of internal organs and structures, help in diagnosis, better care etc) Reassure parent's concerns (eg. safe and non-invasive, medical teams care, ear protection to minimise noise, sedation etc.)
*Provide importance of sedation (eg. calm and still, accurate imaging, and more comfortable etc)
* Explain pre-procedure (eg. follow dietary restriction from medical team, fasting for 5 hours etc)
* Provide information (eg. accurate imaging provide IV fluid etc).
* Inform IV fluid's application and need (eg. numbing cream, well-hydrated, body's balance during the procedure)
* Educate parent about the possible side-effects (eg. generally safe, sedation well-tolerated, by children; mild side-effects: drowsiness or nausea, temporary, close monitoring etc). Discuss: management of side-effects(rest and take it easy, plenty of fluids light and easily digesting meal if hungry etc)
