The of Occupational Therapist
Occupational Therapists (OTs) help people of all ages regain, develop or adapt the skills needed for daily living and working. Their core responsibility is to enable independent safety, and quality of life by addressing physical, cognitive, emotional barriers.
Their key duties include (1) Assessment & Evaluation, (2) Treatment Planning, (3) Intervention and therapy, (4) Education and Callebration
1. Assessment & Evaluation
* Review medical histories, diagnosis, and referral information
* Interview clients and families about routines, needs, and goals
* Observe performance in daily activities (Dressing, cooking, school tasks)
* Assess physical, cognitive, sensory, emotional factors affecting participation.
2. Treatment Planning
* Develop individualized SMART treatment plans
* Use meaningful activities (occupations) to improve function
* Teach new skills or alternate strategies for completing tasks
* Recommend adaptive equipment, assistive technology, or environmental modifications.
(3) Intervention and therapy
* Help patients recover after injury, illness or surgery (e.g., relating to dressing & stroke)
* Support children with developmental conditions ( e.g., autism, sensory processing challenges)
* Guide seniors in adapting to age-related decline (e.g., memory support. fall prevention)
* Provide workplace arrangements, and rehabititationto reduce injury-related events)
4. Education and Callebration
