IELTS Writing 2 - Robots
Some people think that robots are very important to human's future development, while others think that they are dangerous and have negative impact on society. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
While it is often argued that robotic technology will confer significant progress to humanity, others believe that it can be hazardous and even detrimental to the social well-being. (Paraphrase) In my opinion, it would bring more more good than harm. (Thesis)
To embark on, automation in manufacturing will boost efficiency and improve productivity. (Argument) The amount of work an automatic machine can finish in a day is perhaps 100 times as much as a person's workload. Obviously, arduous and repetitive work ranging from the transportation of goods to the operation of assembly can be done automatically, so humans have more time to do creative work and enjoy leisure activities. In addition, the application of robotics can reduce workers' exposure to various hazards that cause damage to health or pose the risk of injury or even death. (Reasons) For instance, in the case of gas blast, robotic counterparts can be sent to the scene of the explosion to carry out dangerous tasks. (Example). Thus, there robots will play a crucial role in the future. (Conclusion BP 1)
On the flip side, there is no doubt that the robots have the potential to generate negative impacts on us. (Argument 2) For one thing, it may result in huge unemployment because manpower will be replaced by automatic machines, which are not only cost-effective but also require noting but energy. This may hamper industrialization as a whole, widening the gap between the rich and the poor. (Reasons). For example, it is possible that robotic machines might equip themselves with high intelligence, thus ruling the world and enslaving humans.(Example). Therefore, too much dependence on robots can be dangerous. (Conclusion BP2)
To conclude, pressured by the shortage of manual labour and propelled by technological development, robots will play a vital role in the future, which although may pose multiple risks to our society, should not obscure the benefits of automation.
