 OET Reading - Part A


The OET Reading sub-test Part A is a critical component of the OET exam, focusing on the skills of skimming and scanning through texts to find specific information quickly. 

Duration: 15 minutes
Number of questions: 20
Content: Part A consists of four short Texts (Text- A,B, C, D) related to a single healthcare topic. They can be patient notes, consent forms, medication labels, disease conditions, e-mails, or similar documents.

Question Types: You will encounter 20 questions which may include Matching the Texts (1-7), Sentence completion (8-14), and Short answer questions (15-20).

Strategy: 
Preparation: 2 minutes (30 seconds for each text)

* Quickly identify the Title,
Section Heading
Sub-heading of each text - A,B,C& D.

 Look for the sign post keywords or phrases, which include:
1. Topic sentence of each text
2. Abbreviations
3. Names 
4. Contrary conjunctions  
5. Modal verbs
6. Negatives
7. Percent- percentage
8. Scale
9. Sequential expressions
10. Time Expressions
11. The last sentence.

1.  Go to question 1-7:  Do the Matching the texts first.

2. Go to question 8-14: Identify which text the question refers to and find out the answers using the already marked 'sign post' phrases.

3. Go to questions 15-20: Identify which text the question refers to and find out the answers using the already marked 'sign post' phrases.

Recommended Texts: Start practising with the Official OET Sample materials 1-5.

Compile your own dictionary and read it daily to retain the:
* Synonyms
* Synonymous language
* Paraphrase language used in each text.

Leave - Depart

Antique - Ancient
Choice - Decision
Elegant - Beautiful
Energetic - Having a lot of energy
Petite - Really small

Cloudless sky - Sunny day
Not tall - Short 
Lethargic - Weak
