Pearson Test of English - PTE Syllabus 2025


The Pearson Test of English (PTE) assesses English proficiency through four sections: Speaking & Writing, Reading and Listening.  


Duration of the Test: Two hours (approximately).


Section-wise Breakdown:


1. Speaking and Writing (54- 67 min.) 

This section assesses spoken and written communication through tasks like describing images, summarising texts and essay writing. 

Speaking & Writing includes:

* Personal Introduction: Introduce yourself briefly.

Read Aloud: Read a text aloud from the screen, assessing pronunciation and fluency.

* Repeat Sentence: Listen to a sentence and repeat it accurately, testing listening and speaking skills.

* Describe Image: Describe a visual image displayed on the screen, including graphs and diagrams.

* Re-tell Lectures: Summarise a lecture in your own words.

* Summarise Written Text: Condense a written text into a concise summary.

* Answer Short Questions: Respond to questions related to the content of the text. 

* Essay: Write an an essay on a given topic, demonstrating writing and critical thinking.


2. Reading (30 -43 min.)

This section evaluates reading comprehension and analysis skills through multiple-choice questions and other formats. 

* Multiple Choice: Choose the correct answer from a list of options.

* Re-order Paragraphs: Arrange paragraphs in the correct order.

* Fill in the Blanks: Complete the sentences with missing words.


3. Listening (30 -43 min.)

This section tests listening comprehension through tasks like summarising summarising spoken texts and answering multiple-choice questions.

* Fill in the Blanks: Complete sentences or paragraphs with missing words. 

* Highlight Correct Summary: Identify the most accurate summary of a listening passage. 

 * Multiple Choice (Single Answer): Choose the correct answer from a list of options.

* Select Missing Word: Choose the missing word in a sentence in a sentence or a paragraph. 

* Summarise Spoken Text: Condense a spoken text into a concise summary.

* Write from Dictation: Write down what you hear, testing your listening and writing skills.


PTE Test Result Validity: Two years from the date of the Test.
