    Common Grammar Mistakes in Writing The most common grammar mistakes students make in writing are:   1. Sentence fragments. 2. Run-on sentences 3. Improper proposition use 4. Tense-verb issues 5. Issues in lexical selection. 1. Use of the word " the ". Use 'the' carefully, such as  * when there is only one of something .  eg. the internet, the future, ..... * with cardinal numbers. eg.  the first, , the fifth. * with superlatives. eg. the best, the last, the largest. *with the names of places where tha name refers to a group of states. eg. the USA, the UK, the USSR, the UAE. *Before the nouns which describe general things. eg.
