 OET Dentistry: Specialists


In Dentistry, there are are several specialized fields, each with its own focus and responsibilities. Here are some common dental specialists and their roles.

1. Endodontist 

* Responsibility: Endodontists specialize intreating the inner pulp of teeth and perform root canal therapy.

* Conditions Treated: Infected or damaged tooth pulp.

* Treatment: Remove infected pulp, clean the root canals, and seal them to save the tooth.


2. Orthodontist

* Responsibility: Specializes in correcting misaligned teeth and jaws. They use braces, aligners, and other devices to straighten teeth and improve bite alignment. 

* Conditions Treated: Overbites, underbites, crowded teeth, and other orthodontic issues.

* Treatment: Design treatment plans to gradually remove teeth into proper alignment. 


3. Periodontist

* Responsibility: Focus on the health of the gums and supporting structures around the teeth. 

* Conditions Treated: Gum disease (gingivitis, periodontitis) , gum recession, and implants. 

* Treatment: Perform scaling and root planning, gum surgery, and implant placement.


4. Prosthodontists

* Responsibility: Specialize in restoring and replacing missing teeth.

* Conditions treated: Tooth loss, damaged tooth cosmetic concerns.

* Treatment: Creates dentures, bridges, crowns, and implant supported restorations. 


5. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon

* Responsibility: These specialists perform surgical procedures related to the mouth, jaw, and face.

* Conditions Treated: Wisdom teeth extraction, jaw surgery, facial trauma, and oral pathology.

* Treatment: Oral surgeons perform complex extractions, dental implants, and corrective jaw surgery.


6. Pedodontist ( Pediatric Dentist)

* Responsibility: Focuses on children's oral health. 

* Conditions Treated: Children's dental care, preventive measures, and early orthodontic evaluation.

* Treatment: Provide routine check-ups, fluoride treatments, and education for parents and children.
