Part 3 Discussion - Sample answers

1. What are some sources of noise pollution?

Ans: Well, Noise pollution, I think, is one of the most important concerns, especially of major cities.

Firstly, the commercial and industrial activities are a major source of noise pollution. For example, printing presses, manufacturing units and construction sites.

Again, social events like places of worship, discos and gigs and market areas are full of noise.

Well, transportation like airplanes flying over houses, trains and vehicles on can be the major sources of noise pollution.

2. What are some common sources of a lot of noise in our daily life?

Ans: Well, it's an interesting question. Noise is an omnipresent companion in our daily lives and its sources can vary widely.

For example, traffic noises, neighborhood noise and occupational noise like machinery, factories, and workplaces where loud equipment operates.

The most irritating of all the noise, for me, are the loud noise from drills, hammers and heavy machinery and the blatant air horns of vehicles.

However, noise pollution isn't just an annoyance; it can impact our health like managing various health like high BP, heart diseases and stress.

3. In your opinion, will the level of noise in the world increase in the future?

Ans: Well, I believe, noise pollution will certainly increase in the future. By the next century, about 85 percent of the world's population is projected to live in cities. As cities expand, noise pollution will likely bloom not only within the cities but also in surrounding suburbs and rural areas.

4. Do you think the rising level of noise is harmful to the environment?

Ans: Well, rising levels of noise can indeed be  harmful to the environment.

Firstly, changes in plant growth, soil quality and water quality are affected by noise pollution. It also affects the wildlife habitat and ecosystem balance.

On the whole noise pollution is a significant environmental problem that affects both land and aquatic ecosystem.

5. Why do people use headphones when walking on the street?

Ans: Well, I guess it may be because they want to enjoy listening to music, podcasts, or audiobooks during their commute or while walking.

Also, headphones can signal to others that the person is occupied and may not want to be disturbed.

Finally, it's a matter of safety. For example, it helps the people to be aware of the surroundings

6. Why do people enjoy meeting up in places with loud music?

Ans: Well, loud noise, particularly music, can stimulate physiological arousal and excitement  and draw people together.

Again, in some cases, loud noise in clubs or bars can affect physical intimacy, as it makes conversation more difficult.
