Setting: Wound Clinic

DOCTOR: Your patient is a 54-year-old cleaning worker, a non-insulin-dependent diabetic, and a smoker. Because of poor footcare, he now has a chronic ankle ulcer that requires attention and follow-up.

Task:

* Ask about the history of his diabetes and about his lifestyle, including medication, weight control and habits.

* Explain why not smoking is good for his diabetes and make suggestions for helping to stop.

* Explain what you will do for him today and how you will follow-up

* Explain why footcare is important and possible consequences of not being complaint.
