Setting: Mental Health Clinic
DOCTOR
A 43 year-old-man has come for a review appointment. The patient was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He has been prescribed Prozac (Fluoxetine) and his condition has stabilized. Currently, the patient wishes to discontinue treatment as he feels better.
TASK
* Discuss to the patient regarding how the medication is working.
* Make sure the patient has not been experiencing trouble sleeping, suicidal thought, or other potential side-effects.
* Explain and educate the patient about the importance of continuing the medication as prescribed ( stopping medication can cause the return of the symptoms, etc)
* Try to convince the patient to continue the treatment (the medication seems to be working, etc.)
* Reassure the patient that people will think differently of him if they find out about his bipolar disorder.
