Guidelines for a Band Score 7 and Up

What you should do:

1. Conciseness: Write about 10 to 15 words per sentence.
2. Cohesion:      Link ideas, paragraphs and sentences together.
3. Coherence:    All your ideas should be understood easily by the examiner.
4. Composition: Use the correct  essay structure.
5. Answer the question fully: Cover all points asked in the task statement.


Requirements of Good Essay

1. Use more complex sentence structure; not complicated, indeed.
2. Use complex vocabulary.
3. Use grammatical range and bring in variation.
4. Use official Writing Task answer sheets to practise and check what 250 words look like in your own handwriting.

Tips for Band 7 Up

* Read and understand the topic of the essay clearly.
* Read the given 5 sample essays of 5 types of IELTS questions  daily.
*Know the right structure for all essay types.
* Know when and where to give your opinion.
* Give strong example in both body paragraphs.
* Use smart words noun groups. 
* Use punctuation correctly.
* Separate the arguments 'for' and 'against' into different paragraphs.
* Use the right tone. IELTS Task 2 essays are always formal.
* Use only possessive or personal pronouns when expressing your opinions.
* Use connecting words at the beginning of body paragraph 1, 2 and Conclusion.
* Bring in Grammatical Range.
* Legibility is a MUST, lest you should get negative marks.
* Your essay must reflect mature way of thinking.
* Maintain Time management:
a) devote the first 5  minutes for planning because you cannot execute without a concrete plan.
b) Write about 270- 280 words, which is possible if only you plan.
c) Devote the last 5 minutes for proofreading. Those who do not do the proofreading seldom get a good score.
* Make your opinion as clear as clear can be.
