Analysis and planning

1. The general statement (News media is important) is a brief but pithy idea. Paraphrase the idea in your own words.

2. There are two question. The first question (Why it is important) does not belong to the 5 types of questions we have seen hitherto. 
In the thesis sentence, give at least two reasons why news media is important.
The second question is the latter part of the Advantage/disadvantage type of question (Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages)
Give two merits of news media

Body paragraph 1. 

*Give two reasons why news media is important.
* Explain them.
* Give a relevant example.
* Conclude the Para.

Body para 2.

* Give two advantages of news media.
* Explain each.
* Give a relevant example.
* Conclude.

Conclusion

* Rewrite the paraphrase of the general statement.
* Rewrite the Thesis sentence.

Model Answer:

News media is a tremendous source of information for individuals as well as society because it keeps us informed of the changing events, issues and characters in the world outside. This essay will dwell on the importance of it, including how the media inform, educate and entertain people. Besides, in my opinion, even though there are a few demerits for media, in general, it has more  positive impact both on people and the society.

To embark on, the most important function of media is to disseminate news to the masses concerning vital occurrences or significant information. It keeps us informed of various happenings around the world. Furthermore, media has a powerful influence on individual's beliefs, attitudes and behaviors. For example, a study conducted by the Election Commission of India reveals that media shapes our attitude to multifarious issues including political, gender sexual orientation and so on. Therefore, media plays no small role in the modern world. 

Without any doubt, news media is a strange mixture of vices and virtues. It provides news about the country's economic situation, sports, entertainment, trade and commerce, which in turn, widen our outlook and enrich our knowledge. Moreover, we are all connected, unlike in the past when people lived their entire lives without knowing the world outside their village. News media can not only give voice to the voiceless but also empower those who are powerful. The US presidential elections are a premier example, in which more than 80 percent of the opinions are shaped by the media. Thus, despite a few minor demerits, news media's influence is generally positive.

To conclude, news media is plays a vital role in the lives of individuals and society alike. Its importance bears both positive and negative impact; however, the positives are more compared to the negatives.
