IELTS Writing Task 2. Causes and Solutions

Model Essay

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic.

In spite of the advances made in agriculture, many people around the world still go hungry.

Why is this the case? What can be done about the problem?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Although the recent years have witnessed tremendous developments in agricultural science, people over the world continue to suffer, and even die from hunger. In my opinion, this is because the innovations rarely impact the developing world and the lack of political will. The best remedy for it is to direct humanitarian funding and substantial political will towards these advances.

To embark on, the principal cause of the chronic starvation and malnutrition is that the advanced developments do not reach the people who need them the most. Without any doubt, the third world countries have troubles in implementing the blessings of scientific researches where they are needed the most. There are a number of reasons for this, ranging from scanty financial resources to the political instability prevailing in those countries. The premier example of it is the African countries, where poverty and malnutrition have historically been the highest. Countries such as Congo have witnessed revolution after revolution over the past several decades, which have drastically destabilized the entire society. Long term economic neglect means that those governments have very limited ability to subsidize farming. these maladies are prevailing in varying degrees in the countries around the world and offer possible explanation for the continued prevalence of hunger.

On the flipside, this demanding problem is not without any solutions.  The remedies that could be suggested would be directing humanitarian funds. If the international organisations re-direct those money into help building better farms, providing more modern equipment and sending more qualified professionals to train people in need, these ongoing challenge could be resolved to a great extent. For instance, India could unravel much of her concerns in the field of agriculture by the "Green Revolution", because the government had not only a firm political will, but also the funds were proactively. Thus, many of the woes in the field of agricultural production and distribution can be sublimated by innovative approaches.

To conclude, despite the breakthrough in agriculture, several people around the globe still suffer from hunger. To remedy this problem,  we should funnel more funding to help those countries to address the alarming situations. Thus, this essay has established the causes why poverty and hunger linger in spite of the scientific advances in the field of agriculture, and put forward tangible solutions.
