It is often argued that museums and art galleries ought to focus on showcasing domestic, rather than international works. In this essay, I will dwell on both the views and validate my opinion that despite the significance of the native pieces for national cohesion, the international items carry outstanding values.
To embark on, the proponents who plead for including exhibits from across the globe in museums and art galleries deem that citizenry as a whole can learn from these displays. Most people have learned their own nations' history and culture; however, possess scanty understanding of other cultures. Frequenting a museum that features items from around the globe is, therefore, an enlightening experience. The British Museum in London is a premier example. It contains one of the world's largest collection of culturally significant artifacts from around the the world. Both the young and old are equally benefited these pieces that predicates about the world. Thus, international exhibits are inevitable.
On the flipside, a section of the demographics feels that national museums and exhibition halls point out a unifying effect. Students from every country are expected to learn their their national history, and a chance to visit a museum would re-vitalize the history, and can inspire patriotism. For instance, the Napier Museum in Trivandrum, which houses key historic and cultural artifacts of Kerala is a treasure trove of knowledge. Despite this, international exhibits have a broad spectrum interest. Hence, although domestic works are significant, international displays are worthier in museums and art galleries.
To conclude, it is generally believed that art galleries should focus more on showcasing local rather than international works. This essay has discussed both these views and established my perspective that although displaying domestic items would escalate the feeling of patriotism and nationalism, international exhibits have added merits.
