Setting: Clinic

NURSE:  A 55-year-old patient has come to enquire about a Boostrix vaccine  (combined diphtheria, tetanus, and acellular pertussis (for whooping cough) vaccine. The patient's daughter is going to have a baby and she is encouraging the patient to get the vaccine. (She heard that some illness some illness can be fatal for infants)). The patient has come to discuss the matter with you , as his daughter believes that if the patient is vaccinated, it will help to protect the baby from these illness. 

TASK

* Find out the reason for the patient's visit.

* Collect information, why he wants to take the vaccination.

* Explain what Boostrix vaccination is for ( vaccine for diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough)  and that it is recommended for adults in close contact with the newborns.

* Give reason for recommendation (severe relentless coughing, may lead to brain damage and whooping cough may be fatal to an infant, etc.)

* Persuade the patient to have the injection. (can use emotional approach: grandchild's safety, etc.)

* Convey that it is three-in -one injection, even though the risk of diphtheria and tetanus are low. 

* suggest that the patient return next week for the vaccine (time for acceptance, etc.).
