Dietitian: You are seeing the parent of a 5-year-old child who is a fussy eater. The parent is worried about the child's poor eating habits and nutrition.

* Confirm the reason for the visit

* Ask about the child's daily diet , eating habits, and growth concerns.

* Reassure that fussy eating is common at this age.

* Explain the importance of balanced nutrition for growth ( e.g., protein, calcium, vitamins, iron, etc.) 

* Advise on practical strategies:

   - offer small, frequent meals

  - involve child in food preparation

 - encourage colour plates ( fruits, vegetables)

 - limit junk foods and sugary drinks

* Suggest nutritious alternatives ( e.g., fruit smoothies,  fortified cereals, lean meats, legumes, etc.)
