Part 3 Discussion
Sample Answers

1. Why do countries import and export food items?

Ans: Well, I think, some countries import food items because they are unable to them locally. This could be due to climatic limitations, resource scarcity or tech constraints.  Again, if a particular food product faces high demand, or local production might not be sufficient, importing helps meet this demand.
Some countries, on the other hand,  export food items  when they have in excess.

2. What are the advantages of importing food?
Ans: Its a good idea to import food products because it allows access to wider variety of food materials available in the society. Such countries can enjoy seasonal fruits and specialty items that aren't locally produced.
On top of that when local production faces seasonal limitations, imports bridge the gap.

3. Are there any disadvantages of importing food?
Ans: Well, I guess, relying heavily on imports can make a country vulnerable to supply disruption. Moreover, excessive imports can harm local farmers and agricultural industries.

4. What factors influence the import and export of food items?
Ans: Countries, such as India,  with diverse climate can produce different types of food. Importing allows access to foods that cannot be grown locally due to climatic condition. Countries, such as the ones in the Middle-East, water or  lacking fertile may import foods, whereas resource-rich nations may export surplus production.

5. Nowadays, why do people seem to prefer packaged food over home-cooked meals?
Ans: Well, I guess, there could be multiple reasons. For example, time constraint. Most of the people have busy schedule, making it challenging to find time for meal preparation. Ordering takeout or buying packaged food is quicker and more convenient than self-cooking. Again, some people lack confidence in cooking abilities. They feel more comfortable relying on pre-packaged options rather than experimenting with recipes at home.  Moreover, as more and more women work outside the home, these options become increasingly popular.

6. What are the implications of consuming packaged food on health and lifestyle?
Ans: Without any doubt, packaged foods can have both positive and negative implications on health and lifestyle.
Convenience, I think, is the first positive aspect. Such foods are quick and easy to prepare, save time and effort. Packaged foods have long shelf life, reducing food waste.
However, packaged foods often contain artificial additives, preservatives and flavors. They can be danger to health. Moreover, they may lack the freshness and nutrients found in home-cooked meals.

NOTE:

In PART 3 Discussion, go on speaking until the interviewer stops you and don't just answer and stop. Display your best English, instead.

In Part 3, it is quite possible that you have to speak about something you have never heard of. If you don't know the subjecttell the examiner soon, so he could ask you another question. Mind you, if you don't tell him and start trying to speak, he might think that it is not a knowledge problem, but a language problem.

Recently, the questions in Part 3 are akin to those appear in Writing Task 2.
