Part 3 Discussion - Sample answer

1. Why do many people go to other countries on holidays?

Ans: Well, I guess, travelling allows people to immerse themselves in different cultures, try new foods, learn new languages, and understand different ways of life.

Holidays are a great break from the routine. Some people, I think, prefer relaxing and rejuvenating, and a change of scenery can be refreshing.

For example, the impact Jatayu Rock Centre gives is entirely different from that of Kovalam beach.

2. Why do some people think it is enjoyable to stay at home on holidays?

Ans: Well, home is a place where one feels most comfortable. There's no need to pack, travel or adjust to a new environment. Travelling can be tiring whereas, staying at home allows people to rest , play with pets and spend quality time with family.

Moreover, during holidays, tourist spots can be crowded, and people who prefer the peace prefer spending time at home.

3. Do old people and young people choose different places to spend their holidays?

Ans: Well, that's an interesting question. I believe the choice of holiday destinations can often vary between older and younger people and it's largely due to differing interests and physical capabilities.

For example younger individuals might be more inclined to destinations that offer adventure sports, nightlife or unique experiences.

On the other hand, older individuals might prefer peaceful scenic destinations for relaxation. They may even choose destinations that are easy to navigate and offer comfortable accommodations.

4. What are the positive effects of tourism on popular destination that many people visit?

Ans: In my opinion, I think, two of the most important positive effects of tourism are economic growth and employment generation. It generates revenue through various activities that are involved in tourism. Ans it provides employment opportunities to thousands of people , directly and indirectly.

Moreover, tourism enhances cultural exchange and infrastructural development, too.

There are counties, for example, Maldives which thrives entirely upon tourism.

5. Are there any negative effects, and what are they?

Ans: Obviously, tourism can have several negative effects on popular destinations. Of them environmental damage is the most important one. For instance, Sabarimala, which is famous for its pristine beauty is a heap of garbage and the topography has been altered beyond repair by the every day construction going on.

Overcrowding and congestion is another negative effect. All the tourist spots have become overcrowded, leading to strain on infrastructure and services and decrease in quality of life for the local residents.

6. What does tourism have to do with cultural exchange?

Ans: Well, when tourists visit different countries, they get an opportunity to learn about the local culture, traditions and customs. This, I think, can lead to better understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures around the world.

Thus, it promotes cultural diversity and facilitates dialogues between different culture. Tourism can be a bridge between cultures promoting mutual understanding and and respect.

NOTE:

In PART 3 Discussion, go on speaking until the interviewer stops you and don't just answer and stop. Display your best English, instead.

In Part 3, it is quite possible that you have to speak about something you have never heard of. If you don't know the subjecttell the examiner soon, so he could ask you another question. Mind you, if you don't tell him and start trying to speak, he might think that it is not a knowledge problem, but a language problem.
