PART 3  Discussion - Sample answers

1. In your opinion, what role should parents play in disciplining their children?

Ans: Well, I believe, parents play two essential roles that significantly impact their children's development: nurturing and providing structure.

Firstly, parents focus on meeting children's basic needs, such as food, medical care, shelter, and clothing. They also provide emotional support, such as love, attention, and understanding.

Secondly, parents provide guidance, direction rules, discipline, and values. It helps children change, grow, and mature.

I think, it's important to maintain a safe distance between nurturing and providing distance. Both these roles contribute to the well-rounded development of of children.

2. Who usually spend more time with the children, father or mother?

Ans: I think, both parents play crucial roles in shaping their children's lives, and their combined efforts contribute to raising well-rounded individuals.

Well, compared to 30-40 years ago, today's fathers spend more time interacting with their children.

Mothers' quality time with their children also has increased. However, it's with the mothers that children spend much more time.

3. Do you think this is the same in all families?

Ans: Well, that depends. For example if any one of them, especially the father is abroad, naturally the children spend all the time with the mothers. Again, if the parents work on shift, the child will be with one of the parents.

4. Why it is important that parents must monitor their children's friendship?

Ans: Without any doubt, it is important for parents to monitor children's friendship for their safety and well-being. Such monitoring is useful for social development, behavior modeling and online safety. Monitoring helps fostering a healthy environment and promotes positive values in children.

5. Do you think parents have a role in choosing their children's friendship?

Ans: Yes, indeed. For example parents can guide their children on choosing friends who share similar values, interests, and positive qualities. Also, they can set boundaries regarding friendships.

However, while parents can guide their children, ultimately, children also learn from their own experiences.

6. Do you believe that children learn more effectively from making mistakes or from strict rules and conditions?

Ans: Well, I think children's learning is a fascinating journey, shaped by delicate balance between mistakes rules. Mistakes, I think, are powerful teachers because when children make errors or encounter challenges, they gain valuable insights.

On the other hand, rules and conditions create a safe environment where children understand boundaries and consequences. Moreover, they teach discipline, responsibility and respect for others.

A blend of mistakes and rules nurture holistic development enabling children to learn, grow and thrive.

NOTE:

In PART 3 Discussion, go on speaking until the interviewer stops you and don't just answer and stop. Display your best English, instead.

In Part 3, it is quite possible that you have to speak about something you have never heard of. If you don't know the subjecttell the examiner soon, so he could ask you another question. Mind you, if you don't tell him and start trying to speak, he might think that it is not a knowledge problem, but a language problem.
