Part 3 Discussion - Sample Answers

1. Is meat popular in your country?

Ans: Well, meat consumption in India has seen interesting trends.

While, I guess, vegetarianism is significant, in South India and Bengal the popularity of meat is increasing.

Chicken seems to be the favourite among the meat dishes in India.

2. Who eat more meat in your country, men or women?

Ans: Excuse me, but I wonder if I know the right answer. However, I remember reading somewhere that men eat more meat in than women women in India and there are some regional variations.

Well, I'm not sure.

3. In your opinion, will people in your country stop eating meat in the future?

Ans: Well, it's a fascinating  question.

Predicting whether people in India will stop eating meat entirely is complex. It depends on a multitude of factors, including cultural, economic and environmental considerations. As society evolves, so will our food choices, I think.

4. Why many people buy unhealthy foods?

Ans: I guess, it's mainly because of the cost factor.

Unhealthy food is often cheaper than healthier alternatives.  For instance, processed foods high in sugar, salt and fat can be mass-produced and can have a longer shelf life. On the other hand, healthy food, tends to be more expensive. The cost difference can discourage people from choosing healthier options.

Another reason, I think, is the taste. Unhealthy foods, such as the junk foods, often provide intense flavors, triggering the pleasure centers of brain. People may prioritize taste and immediate satisfaction over long-term health benefits.

5. How can governments encourage their citizens to choose healthy foods?

Ans: Well, promoting healthy eating is a crucial goal for governments worldwide.

To that end, mass-media campaigns can raise awareness about the benefits of healthy eating.

Limiting unhealthy food advertising can influence consumer choices. For example, restrictions on fast-food restaurants help promote better options.

6. What can cause people to change the eating habits?

Ans: Well, I think, feeling hungry or satisfied impacts what we eat. Taste preferences play crucial role in food selection. How food looks, smells and feels also affect our choices.

Moreover, attitudes and beliefs impact choices. For example, most Hindus don't eat beef because of religious faiths.

NOTE:

In PART 3 Discussion, go on speaking until the interviewer stops you and don't just answer and stop. Display your best English, instead.

In Part 3, it is quite possible that you have to speak about something you have never heard of. If you don't know the subjecttell the examiner soon, so he could ask you another question. Mind you, if you don't tell him and start trying to speak, he might think that it is not a knowledge problem, but a language problem.
