OET Speaking - Assessment Criteria
The OET Speaking Assessment Criteria evaluate your performance in the speaking sub-test. They include:
1. Intelligibility and Fluency:
This assesses your pronunciation, clarity, and fluency. It considers how well your listeners can understand what you are saying. Make sure to speak clearly and maintain a good natural flow (neither too fast, nor too slow).
2. Appropriateness of Language:
Use the language apt to the health context. Avoid using medical jargon and complex medical terms unless necessary.
3. Resources of Grammar and Expressions:
Your ability to use correct grammar and sentence structure is crucial. Aim for accurate and flexible use of grammar and vocabulary.
Clinical Communication in OET
It includes your ability to communicate effectively in healthcare scenarios.
1. Relationship building:
* Start conversations in a friendly and respectful manner.
* Listen to the patient carefully without judgment.
* Show understanding for their feelings and situations.
2. Understanding and Incorporating the patient's Perspective:
* Consider the patient's viewpoint.
* Adapt your communication to address their needs and concerns.
3. Providing Structure:
* Organise your communication logically.
* Ensure clarity and coherence in your responses.
4. Information Gathering:
* Ask relevant questions to gather necessary information.
* Be thorough and attentive during interactions
5. Information Giving:
* Convey information clearly to the patients or relatives.
* Use appropriate language and terminology.
