PARENTHESIS for OET and IELTS

Parenthesis



Parenthesis is a punctuation mark used to enclose additional information within a sentence.

It provides further explanation, clarification, or an afterthought.

It sets off aside those ideas from the main content of the sentence. They are:


1. Commas: 
Commas, when used in pairs serves as parenthesis.
They are placed to give extra information.

2. Brackets:
Brackets always come in pairs and are placed to give extra information.
Reading module (both in IELTS and OET) is considered hard by many test takers, 

3. Dashes: 
Like commas and brackets, dashes also come in pairs. An additional information is provided within the two dashes.

Exercise:
1. Nouchine - and her team at Harvard Medical School - managed to record an episode of CSD in a brain scanner during migraine aura (in a visual region that responds to flickering motion).

2. Marla Mickleborough, a vision specialist at the University of Saskatchewan, found heightened threat to visual stimuli.
