Part 3 Discussion - Sample Answers
1. What kinds of products are usually imported into your country?
Ans: Well, it's a hard question and I have never thought about it. However, I guess, we import a wide variety of products such as crude oil, coal, electronics, and machinery.
Of them, India is one of the largest importers of crude oil due to its growing energy needs. Well, I'm not sure.
2. In your opinion, why do some people buy imported products?
Ans: I think, the imported things can meet the demand for products that are not available domestically. Quality is another matter. Imported products are often seen to be of better quality than the domestic ones.
Moreover, imported products can provide a wider range of products to choose from.
3. What are some famous local products in your country?
Ans: India is known for its rich and diverse culture, which is reflected in its local products.
Indian spices is the most popular for its fragrant and flavorful foods. Indian tea, especially fron the south of India is famous.
Also, Amul, the largest producers of milk products, and Raymond the celebrated textile brand are equally famous local products.
4. Do you think a country should make everything it needs or import some thing?
Ans: If a country has abundant resources to produce everything it needs, then it is always better to do so. However, I doubt if there is such a country in the world. Each country often specializes in certain products, and they may produce those products. What they can't , must be imported.
For instance, India is number 1 in production of rice, but we have to import crude oil. What we have extra can be exported where there is a scarcity.
5. Are there any disadvantages of a country producing everything it needs?
[Ans: Excuse me, but I wonder if I know the right answer, because I'm not in touch with the topic.]

Well, it's a hard question and I haven't thought about it. However, I think, attaining self-sufficiency is good, but if we don't import things, we would lose global economy and interconnectedness. International trade allows wider range of goods and services. Well, I'm not sure.
6. Do you think globalisation of industries and commerce is good?
Ans: It has both advantages and disadvantages.
The advantages include opening access to new markets and spread ideas and innovations. Thus, it paves way for increased economic development and cultural exchange.
While, there are disadvantages, too. For instance, globalisation can lead to job lose. It can have negative environmental impacts.
It's a complex issue involving a variety of factors.
NOTE:
In PART 3 Discussion, go on speaking until the interviewer stops you and don't just answer and stop. Display your best English, instead.
In Part 3, it is quite possible that you have to speak about something you have never heard of. If you don't know the subject, tell the examiner soon, so he could ask you another question. Mind you, if you don't tell him and start trying to speak, he might think that it is not a knowledge problem, but a language problem.
