1. Why do people give gifts?
Ans: Well, I reckon, giving gifts is a fascinating aspect of human behaviour. It allows people to express moral values such as love, kindness, and gratitude. All religions emphasize the significance of giving as a way to embody these values. Moreover, it's a great way to celebrate Vishu, or Onam or Christmas or a birthdays.
2. What kinds of things should we consider when choosing a gift?
Ans: I think, the best gifts come from the heart and so you have put thought and care into choosing something special for the person you are giving it. Firstly, consider the recipient's interests because a gift related to their interest is likely to be appreciated much. Then, the context matters, Different occasions, such as birthdays, anniversary, holiday or special milestone call for different types of gifts. Finally, I think, adding a personal touch makes the gifts more meaningful.
3. On what occasions do people in your country give gifts?
Ans: Well, gift-giving is an integral part of Indian culture, expressing love, respect, and gratitude. For example, Diwali, Holi, Christmas, housewarming, wedding and so on are the special occasions when gifts are exchanged. In Kerala, on the Vishu day, the eldest member of the family gives money as gifts to all family members.
4. Do you find it easy or difficult to choose a gift?
In my opinion, selecting gift can be both exciting and challenging.
When we know the recipient well, their interests, and preferences, it becomes easier to choose a thoughtful gift.
On the other hand, if you are not sure about the recipient's tastes and preferences, it is hard to find something they will truly appreciate.
5. How has giving gift changed over the time?
Ans: Gift-giving has changed much over the time. I think advertising fueled consumerism and gifts became associated with holidays and special occasions. Moreover, online shopping revolutionised gift selection. Virtual gifts and e-cards have emerged recently. Yet, the essence of gift giving remains unchanged: love, thoughtfulness and connection.
6. What's better, giving things as gifts or money worth it?
Ans: Well, it depends on various factors. I think, the best choice depends on the context, your relationship with the recipient, and their preferences. Sometimes, a heartfelt letter or a small handmade item can be more meaningful than any material possessions.
NOTE:
In PART 3 Discussion, go on speaking until the interviewer stops you and don't just answer and stop. Display your best English, instead.
In Part 3, it is quite possible that you have to speak about something you have never heard of. If you don't know the subject, tell the examiner soon, so he could ask you another question. Mind you, if you don't tell him and start trying to speak, he might think that it is not a knowledge problem, but a language problem.
