Part 3 Discussion - Sample Answers
1. Why are teenagers drawn to smartphones?
Ans: Well, smartphones help tees stay in touch with their friends and forge new relationships. Its this communication facility, I think, is what draws teens to it.
Access to the internet is another attraction. Moreover, watching videos, chatting, messaging give them entertainment and stress buster.
Finally smartphones provide a vast amount of information at their fingertips, which can be used for learning and staying updated.
2. Do you think using smart phones and computer is good for children?
Ans: Well, I think, it is beneficial for children; however, to ensure that their usage is balanced and age-appropriate.
It's beneficial because electronic devices can stimulate the imagination and senses of children even younger than pre-age. For example some electronic use promote language and listening and help a child learn sounds and speech.
Excessive screen time for babies may cause developmental side effects. So, parental guidance and setting healthy boundaries are key to ensuring a positive impact on a child's development.
3. Why aren't older people good at using mobile phones?
Ans: Well, I think, it is the physical challenges. As we age, challenges such as arthritis, poor eyesight, and memory loss can make navigating a smartphone tricky and frustrating.
Moreover, digital technologies change fast, and usually you need spend a bit of time learning how to use them. This can be overwhelming for older adults.
However, there are many older adults increasingly adopting smartphones.
4. How or where can they learn to use a smartphone or a computer?
Ans: Well, I'm not quite sure about it. However, there are several local organisations offering computer training for older people. These courses explain things clearly both online and in local languages.
Older adults can learn from their younger family members or friends. So, I don't think it's difficult at all, provided they are enthusiastic enough.
5. How could technology companies adapt their products for older users?
NOTE:
In PART 3 Discussion, go on speaking until the interviewer stops you and don't just answer and stop. Display your best English, instead.
In Part 3, it is quite possible that you have to speak about something you have never heard of. If you don't know the subject, tell the examiner soon, so he could ask you another question. Mind you, if you don't tell him and start trying to speak, he might think that it is not a knowledge problem, but a language problem.
