Part 3 Discussion - Sample Answers
1. What circumstances usually prompt people to ask for help?
Ans: Well, I guess, in our fast-paced work environments, burnout can lead individuals to seek help. When overwhelmed, asking for help can alleviate stress and prevent exhaustion.
Again, whether it's acquiring a new language, mastering a musical instrument, or understanding complex concepts seeking guidance eases the learning process.
2. When do you think people hesitate to ask for help?
Ans: Some people refuse to ask for help because, I think, they they fear being rejected.
Or, it is possible because if one asks for help, one will be perceived as incapable. This happens everywhere; for instance, in the class. Many students do not ask for help or even ask doubts because they are scared , 'what others will think of them'.
However, I reckon, asking for help is is sign of strength, and not weakness.
3. Does helping others benefit society as a whole?
Ans: Certainly. When individuals extend a helping hand, it creates a ripple effect that reaches beyond the immediate act if assistance. For instance, acts of kindness and support foster a sense of community and togetherness. It strengthens social bonds and promotes a harmonious environment.
No doubt, even small acts of kindness contribute to greater good. Collective efforts to address social issues, such as healthcare access, education and environmental conservation, lead to progress.
4. Are people nowadays more willing to help others compared to the past?
Ans: Well, I think, Yes, because of increased awareness. Modern communication and media platforms allow us to learn about global issues and the struggles faced by others. This awareness fosters empathy and motivates people to help.
Moreover, technology enables quick responses during emergencies. Crowdsourcing platforms and donation apps make it easier. No doubt, the collective willingness to help others has grown these days than in the past.
5. Are there cultural differences in how people help others?
Ans: Well, traditionally, Indian culture emphasizes the duty to help others. People believe in Karma, the law of cause and effect, and view acts of kindness as a way to accumulate positive karma. All religions teach that individuals should provide assistance when needed.
I believe that the Indian culture influences people to help others when they are in need through family ties, or community service, the spirit of kindness remains the spirit of the culture. Indian culture teaches to help not only the friends but also the enemies when they are in need.
6. Is it important to express gratitude?
NOTE:
In PART 3 Discussion, go on speaking until the interviewer stops you and don't just answer and stop. Display your best English, instead.
In Part 3, it is quite possible that you have to speak about something you have never heard of. If you don't know the subject, tell the examiner soon, so he could ask you another question. Mind you, if you don't tell him and start trying to speak, he might think that it is not a knowledge problem, but a language problem.
