Part 1

Sample Answers for Part 3- Discussion


1. Do you think all athletes should be considered as role models?

Ans: Well, it depends.  On the one hand, athletes can be role models because athletes often possess exceptional skills in their sports and these qualities can be inspiring to others. Moreover, the teamwork and sportsmanship they display can be beneficial in many areas of life.

O the other hand, I don't think all sportspersons should be role models because some of them exhibit behavior outside the field are not worthy of emulation. A few of them are involved in controversies or illegal activities. Furthermore all sportspersons are always under pressure, which makes their life not that enjoyable as we imagine. 

So, I believe that athlete can certainly be role models; however,  we should be careful of the personal and professional values they maintain. 


2. What roles do famous athletes play in promoting sports activities?

Ans: Well, without any doubt, famous athletes play several key roles in promoting sports activities. They have the power to shape  societal attitude towards sports and physical activity. Moreover, they inspire and motivate people, especially the young ones to take up sports and strive for success. Besides,  many athletes establish foundations or participate in community programs  that aim to make sports accessible to underprivileged communities.  


3. How important is it for children to be involved in sports  from young age?

I think, involvement in sports from a young age is highly beneficial for children because it helps them to maintain a healthy body and reduces the risk of obesity. Participating in sports can help children to develop important social skills  like teamwork, leadership and communication. It also provides opportunities for making for making new friends.


4. Why do you think some parents focus only on academic achievements and not sporting activities for their children?

Well, it's true that some parents might focus more on academic for their children because they believe that academic success is more important for their child's future. Also, it's possible that some parents are not aware of the benefits of sports and physical activities for their child's overall development. Moreover, some parents might worry about the risk of injuries associated with certain sports,  leading them to discourage their children from participating.


5. Can involvement in sports help in a child's overall development ?

Indeed. Involvement in sports can significantly contribute to the overall development of a child, because regular participation helps them to build strong muscles and bones, improved co-ordination and balance and maintain a healthy weight. Regular physical activity has been linked to better academic performance and it caters to improving memory, creativity and focus.


6. How can schools balance academic and sporting education for the overall development of students?

Ans: Well, in my opinion, schools can do several thing. 

* Schools can integrate sports-related topics into academic curriculum. For example, Physics can include a module on the mechanics of different sports, Biology can discuss the body's response to physical exercise, and Math can involve statistics from sports.

* Schools can promote a sports culture by organising inter-school sports competitions, celebrating National Sports Day and recognizing students' achievements in sports.
