Prepositions with Injuries - OET Writing
Prepositions are the words that show the relationship between a noun/pronoun and another part of the sentences, such as a verb. They are vital for expressing accurate and clear info, especially in the medical field. In OET Writing sub-test you need to describe WOUNDS and INJURIES using appropriate prepositions.
Some common prepositions used to describe wounds and injuries are:
1. WITH: is used to indicate the diagnosis or the cause of the injury.
e.g.
Mr Parker was admitted with a fracture of the left femur. (diagnosis)
Mrs Nissar sustained the injury with a fall from the ladder.(cause)
2. IN: is used to indicate the location or the type of the injury.
e.g.
She has a deep laceration in his right forearm. (location)
He has a fracture in the distal end of the radius.
3. TO: is used to indicate the direction or the extent of the injury.
e.g.
Lisa has a bruise to her right forearm. (direction)
He has a sprain to his right ankle (direction)
4. AT: is used to indicate the specific point or time of the injury.
e.g.
Mr Williams has a punctured wound at the base of his thumb (specific point)
She developed an infection at the site of the injury
