WRITING WEEK - Day 1

Task  II  Essay   Agree/Disagree


Crime rates are likely to decline due to the advancement in technology, which will help preventing and solving crimes in an easy way. Do you agree or disagree?


It is often argued that averting and resolving crimes is easier these days, thanks to the exponential growth of science and technology. (Paraphrase) However, the blessings of science are accessible  to the criminals, too, who will develop more and more innovative ways of committing crimes, which the law and order authorities have not even imagined hitherto. In my opinion, even though crimes can be prevented and unfolded, these scientific methods can not reduce the crime rates. (Thesis)


To embark on, without any doubt, technology plays a pivotal role in solving crimes. ( Argument 1) Firstly, it is much easier these days to decipher crimes committed with the advanced security systems such as CCTVs, finger print scanners, face scanners and so on.  Secondly, communication among perpetrators of crime can be easily intercepeted using the sophisticated equipment available with the law enforcement force. ( Reason) For example, the recent terror attempt in Bangalore city was aborted by the decoding the communication of the terrorists. (Example)Therefore, modern technology is capable of averting and deciphering crimes. (Conclusion BP 1)


On the flipside, the tech-savvy criminal can cleverly perpetrate felony in novel ways that the police have never ever imagined. (Argument 2) They may use technology to carry out ingenious modes of operations, conceal their identity, and even destroy the evidences. (Reason) For example, the drug trafficking, counterfeit currency printing, terrorist activities and so on resort to science and technology and carried out by university educated people. (Example) Thus, the very science helps the offenders to carry out their newly hatched diabolic intents. (Conclusion BP 2)   

To conclude, not everyone is optimistic about the prospects of the using modern technologies in crime prevention because the criminals can outwit the law enforcement team with the help of the same technology. Hence, although the wonders of science and technology can help in preventing and detecting crimes, it lacks teeth to reduce crime rates.
