Exploitation of Animals IELTS Task 2 Essay

(Discuss both Views)

Some people believe that it is necessary to use animals for testing drugs or products intended for humans. Others, however, criticize this as cruelty to animals. Discuss both these views and give your opinion.

Intro:

 Animals have been used in diverse ways to fulfil requirements of human beings ever since the dawn of history. It is often argued that they should not be should not be used for human needs; however, others disagree because the use of animals is inevitable for the existence of   human race. (Paraphrase)This essay will dwell on both the views and validate my opinion that the use of animals can be sanctioned, provided we inflict minimum pain upon them.(Thesis)

BP1

To embark on, the proponents of animal exploitation believe that it is acceptable to use living beings for the for human survival. (View 1). They reckon that it is unavoidable to ensure the continued existence of mankind. Whether it is for food or for research purposes animals are indispensable. (Reason). For instance, several diseases, which were thought to be incurable, are now entirely under our control or even eradicated because of the experiments conducted on animals. (Example)  Therefore, the use of animals is justified. (Conclusion BP1)

BP2

On the flipside,  a section of the demographics feels that using animals for researches is unethical because they also enjoy the privilege of animal rights. (View 2) The excruciating pain meted out  to animals in the name of human welfare is entirely un acceptable. (Reason) For example, animals such as rats, rabbits, pigs and so on have been tortured ruthlessly in labs. (Example) Despite this, the use of animals can be permitted, provided we inflict minimum pain up on them.(Conclusion BP2)

Conclusion 

To conclude, it is widely held that animals should be treated in the same way as humans are, while others deem that it is important to use them for for food and research. (Re-state paraphrase) This essay has discussed both the views and established my opinion that even though exploitation of animals is unethical and inhuman, it can be justified if we inflict less pain and more care for them. (Re-state thesis)
