IELTS Speaking Part 1.

 IELTS Speaking Part 1

What happens in Part 1?

In Part 1, the examiner will introduce himself/herself and ask general questions on familiar topics. The. examiner will ask you to to confirm your identity.

It is very important to impress the examiner at the outset because he does not know what band you are -- 5 to 6, or 6 to 7, or 7 up. Except for the identification questions, all other answers must be given in at least 3 sentences, if possible with an example. Give extended answers. Don't give monosyllable answers.

Divide your answers into 2 or 3 parts.

Expand your answers by moving from general to more specific and possibly giving examples. Make use of a strategy. It helps you to give longer answers and increase your fluency.

Why should you prepare?

* Prepare question types than the topics.
* Types make more than 80 % of the questions.
* Studying types will reduce your brain loading.

Divide the question to give an extended answer?

* General statement
* Point 1
* Point 2/3

For example:
1. What does something look like?

Examiner: What does your home look like?

General statement: Well, I would say, I live on the 10th floor of a high-rise condo.
Point 1. It has a bird's eye view of my city.
Point 2. On top of that, it's very spacious.
Point 3. Finally, I would say, it was re-painted recently, so it's very comfortable to live in.

Example 2.
What kind of something is popular in your city/country?

Examiner: What kind of restaurants are popular in your city?

General statement: Well, I would say, there's  quite a mixed variety of eating establishments in my hometown.
Point 1. I think, the most common ones are the fast food joints as they are less expensive.
Point 2. In addition, vegetarian restaurants are also extremely popular  for health conscious people.

 Type 1.: Liking

Structure: General statement + precise statement+ reason.

Examiner: What type of music do you like?
Candidate: Well, in general, I'm a big fan of classical music.
Point 1: In particular, I'm really keen on the items from 60s and 70s because that was a golden era of Indian classical music,
and I guess this is because they bring fond memories of my youth.

Type 2: Disliking

Structure: General statement + Precise statement+ reason.

Example:
IELTS Examiner: What kind of music you do not like
Candidate: Well, generally speaking, I have to say, I'm not really fond of today's modern music. To be more specific, I can't really stand techno and rap music. I think, this is due to the fact that it is loud, repetitive and in my opinion doesn't highlight musician's talents.

Type 3 Habits.  Use "Depends"

Structure: Depends + if preference 1 +  If preference 2

IELTS Examiner: What do you usually do on the internet?
Candidate: Well, it depends really upon how busy I'm with work obligations.
If I'm required to study or prepare a subject, I prefer to get these tasks completed.
But, if I have some spare time, I would rather engage in social media chats and/or play computer games.

Type 4

Yes/No Question - Use Depends

Use the same structure: Depends+ Preference1 + Preference 2

IELTS Examiner: Do you like shopping online?
Candidate: Well, to be honest, I would say that it really depends.
Usually I prefer going to the stores, so I can see what something actually looks like.
Although sometimes I prefer the convenience of shopping from home. online.

Type 5

'WH-" Questions

Structure: Main Point + Concession

IELTS Examiner: What do you usually do on weekends?
