Advantages/Disadvantages

In the future all cars will be driverless and the
only people travelling inside these vehicles will be
 passengers. Do you think the advantages of
 driverless cars oughtweigh the disadvantages?
 

Currently there have been great strides made in technology required to transition to a system of driverless cars and it has been argued that one day all vehicles would be automated, with human beings merely passengers. This essay will dwell on the advantages such as minimising the number of accidents and controlling emissions and disadvantages including depriving the freedom and enjoyment of driving.   In my opinion, even though there are a few demerits, it has more advantage and hence the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

To embark on, improvements in safety is the prime attraction of driverless cars. At present, cars are immensely dangerous and yet we continue to use them. The vast majority of accidents are caused by human errors; however, they could be eliminated totally if the vehicles are automatically updated. Further more, these types of cars would ensure that they optimise their routes to avoid traffic , which not only saves time but also reduce the amount of emissions. The study conducted by "Fast Track" reveals that about 80 percent accidents and emissions could be controlled if we go for driverless cars. Thus, they have several advantages.

On the flip side, a section of the demographics plead that driverless cars are not without any blemishes. The loss of freedom that will come from those types of cars is a major concern for many enthusiasts. For many veteran drivers, road is a symbol of freedom, and a driverless car curtail the pleasure of driving. For example, a research paper published recently by Japanese university shows that most of the millennials consider driving as a great way of expressing themselves. Therefore, the  driverless cars are not an absolute blessing.

To conclude, this essay has established the positive and negatives of driverless cars. In my opinion, despite a few minor demerits, the merits of them are more; therefore, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
