There are three types of Maps.
i) Describes ONE map in the present.

ii) Describes TWO maps; one in the past and the other in the future.

iii) Describes TWO maps; one in the past and the other in the present.
(Usually asked)
Structure
Paragraph 1: Introduction - Paraphrase the question using synonyms. (One sentence)
Paragraph 2: Overview . (2 Sentences.)
(What is the difference between the two maps;
General changes.

How to write the General Changes
1. Over the time period, the city witnessed dramatic changes.
2. The village changed considerably over the time.
3. From 2005 to 2010, the city centre saw significant developments.
4. During the 20 years, the industrial area was totally reconstructed.
5. Between 1990 and 2010, the old houses were re-built.
6. Over the time period, the old dock was totally re-constructed.
7. Over the past 50 years, the residential area was totally reconstructed.

Vocabulary for how to describe changes
Buildings.
Demolished: eg. The industrial estate was demolished and developed into a sports ground by the municipality.
Knocked down: eg. The row of shops were knocked down and replaced with the skyscrapers.
Renovated: eg. the old building was totally renovated.
Constructed: eg. A harbour was constructed at the edge of the river.
Relocated: eg. The factory in the city was relocated to the north of the city.
Trees and Forests.
Cleared: eg. The trees were cleared to make way for for a new residential area.
Cut-down: The forest was cut-down to make space for shopping complex.
Planted: eg. A new forest was planted west of the marsh.
Roads, Bridges, Railway lines.
Constructed:. eg. A new railroad was constructed next to the village.
Extended: eg. The main road was extended and a new bridge was built over the river.
Removed: eg. The old railway line was removed and replaced by a metroline.
Leisure facilities
Opened:. eg. A new sports centre was set up close to the swimming pool.
Developed: eg. A playground was developed next to the school.
How to describe Location
Directions:
1. The forest to the south of the river was totally cut-down.
2. A school was constructed to the north-west to the station.
3. The school to the south-west of the factory was knocked down and a new one was constructed to the north of the forest.
